Surkhandarya and Kashkaqarya

Located in the South-west of Uzbekistan, Surkhandarya and Kashkaqarya include a number of towns, Kech (Shahrisabz), Denov, Jarkughan and Nasaf (Karshi) and their centres are Termez and Karshi, respectively. The city was given the title of Qubbat ul-Ilm val-Adab (Dome of knowledge and morality).

Dating back to more than 2700 years, the cities used to be part of the Islamic Caliphate in the 7th century. There are a lot of historical monuments, mosques and madrasahs as well. A number of outstanding scholars, such as Abu Isa Tirmidhi, Hakim Tirmidhi and Abul Mu’in Nasafi lived and studied in Surkhandarya and Kashkaqarya provinces.
